Weather
- Talking about weather, the Dutch term for weather is weer.
- When discussing seasons in Dutch, you might say het is zomer (it’s summer), het is herfst (it’s autumn), het is winter (it’s winter), and het is lente (it’s spring).
- Different weather conditions include het is zonnig (it is sunny), het is bewolkt (it is cloudy), het is mistig (it is foggy), and het sneeuwt (it is snowing).
- To indicate temperature, you could say het is tien graden (it is ten degrees), or het is onder nul (it is below zero).
Travel
- Dutch for travel is reizen.
- To express that you are travelling, use the phrase ik ga op reis (I’m going on a trip).
- For more specific locations, you could say something like ik ga naar de bergen (I’m going to the mountains) or ik bezoek de stad (I’m visiting the city).
- You might need to ask for directions kunt u mij de weg wijzen naar… (can you show me the way to…) or waar is het station? (where is the station?).
- When using public transportation, bus is de bus, the tram is de tram, and the subway is de metro.
Accommodation
- When discussing types of accommodation, hotel is referred to as het hotel, a camping site as de camping, and a vacation rental home as het vakantiehuis.
- To book a room, you can use the phrase ik wil een kamer boeken (I want to book a room).
- For checking in and out, use ik wil inchecken (I want to check in) or ik wil uitchecken (I want to check out).
