Components of Skill-Related Fitness

  • Agility: This refers to the capacity to quickly change body position or direction of the body. Agility is a requirement in sports that require quick responses like football, basketball, and hockey.

  • Balance: The ability to keep your body’s position, whether stationary (static balance) or while moving (dynamic balance). This component is essential in activities like gymnastics, ice skating, and surfing.

  • Coordination: The ability to use two or more body parts together with harmony. Accurate coordination is a requirement in sports such as juggling, soccer, and racket sports where hands and feet must work together efficiently.

  • Reaction Time: This refers to the period it takes to respond to a specific stimulus. A quick reaction time is especially vital in sports such as fencing, table tennis, and motorsports where the ability to respond swiftly can often determine the outcome.
