Concept of Neighbourhood

邻居 (línjū): Refers to ‘neighbour’. Members of your immediate community living in close proximity to your residence.
邻里 (línlǐ): This term is used to describe the ‘neighbourhood’, a community or district that consists of residents living close together.
社区 (shèqū): Refers to as ‘community’, a step above the neighbourhood. It can comprise multiple neighbourhoods and refers to people living in close geographical proximity sharing certain amenities or lifestyle.
街区 (jiēqū): Refers to a ‘block’, a smaller part within a neighbourhood, especially in urban areas.
周边 (zhōubiān): Describes the ‘vicinity’ or ‘surroundings’ of a specific location.

Roles within a Community

社区居民 (shèqū jūmín): This refers to ‘community residents’, emphasising the collective aspect of community living.
社区领导 (shèqū lǐngdǎo): This term describes a ‘community leader’ who has an essential role to play in leading, coordinating, making decisions, and addressing concerns within a community.
志愿者 (zhìyuànzhě): This means ‘volunteer’, indicating someone who offers their time and resources to serve their community without seeking personal financial gain.
