Organisational Issues
-
Organisational issues can greatly influence an individual’s performance. They refer to conditions or situations created by the setting or environment in which the activity takes place.
-
These could include the quality and availability of facilities used for training or competing. If facilities are lacking or inappropriate, performance could suffer.
-
Other organisational issues could involve the geography and weather. For instance, training or competing on different types of terrain or in different climates can impact on performance.
-
The rules and regulations associated with the activity itself are also crucial. Understanding and adapting performance to different rules can challenge an individual’s flexibility and strategic thinking.
-
Finally, the culture or ethos of the club or team, such as their values, attitudes or levels of professionalism, can also impact on performance.
Recognised Tests
-
Recognised tests are tools used by coaches to assess the physical fitness of an individual. These tests are standardised, meaning they are administered and scored in a consistent manner.
-
A recognised test should be reliable, meaning that it provides consistent results over repeated trials.
-
It should also be valid, in that it truly measures what it is supposed to measure. For example, a test for speed should not be influenced by an individual’s strength.
-
One commonly used recognised test is the Cooper 12-minute run test for evaluating cardiovascular endurance.
-
The Illinois Agility Test is another example, designed to measure an individual’s speed and agility.
-
The outcome of these tests can provide valuable feedback about an individual’s fitness and performance capabilities, contributing to the design of training programmes and performance strategies.
-
However, it is also important to remember that these tests are only tools and do not entirely represent an individual’s ability to perform in a given sport or activity. Performance is multi-faceted and can be influenced by many variables.
