Section 1: Vocabulary on Citizenship

  • Grasp the essential terminologies relating to citizenship like la ciudadanía (citizenship), el ciudadano/la ciudadana (citizen), la sociedad (society), los derechos civiles (civil rights), las responsabilidades (responsibilities).
  • Words pertinent to government structures including el gobierno (government), la democracia (democracy), la ley (law), la justicia (justice), la igualdad (equality).

Section 2: Descriptions and Opinions on Citizenship

  • Get comfortable with using adjectives to describe aspects of citizenship, such as activo/a (active), responsable (responsible), involucrado/a (involved), comprometido/a (committed), participativo/a (participative).
  • Formulate opinions using phrases like: “Creo que es importante ser un ciudadano activo” (I believe it’s important to be an active citizen), or “Pienso que la participación en la sociedad es fundamental” (I think participation in society is essential).

  • Practice future tenses with statements like: “La ciudadanía digital será más importante en el futuro” (Digital citizenship will be more important in the future).
  • Express hopes or predictions using phrases like: “Espero que haya más igualdad en el futuro” (I hope there’s more equality in the future), or “Quizás habrá más participación ciudadana” (Perhaps there’ll be more citizen participation).
