Responsibilities

- Feed animals according to their dietary needs, considering the amount, frequency and types of food each species requires.
- Maintain clean environments for animals, cleaning out enclosures regularly to prevent the spread of disease.
Health and Safety
- Conform to all health and safety regulations imposed by the work experience setting, including wearing the correct protective clothing and using equipment correctly.
- Ensure animals are handled in a way that minimises stress and risk of injury to both the animal and handler.
- Report any concerns about animal welfare, health and safety issues or misconduct to a supervisor promptly.

Practical Skills
- Showcase proficiency in animal handling, ensuring it’s done correctly based on the species’ behaviour and physiological characteristics.
- Demonstrate ability to prepare food correctly, considering the dietary needs and preferences of different species.
