Section: Describing Your Town/City

  • The phrase Vivo en means “I live in…”.
  • For smaller areas or neighbourhoods, use Vivo en una zona de or Vivo en un barrio de.
  • Use Mi ciudad se llama or Mi pueblo se llama to say “My city/town is called…”.
  • Es una ciudad grande/pequeña means “It’s a big/small city”.
  • Está en el norte/sur/este/oeste del país corresponds to “It’s in the north/south/east/west of the country”.
  • To describe your town’s physical characteristics, use Está en las montañas / en el desierto / cerca del mar meaning “It’s in the mountains / in the desert / near the sea”.

  • To tell what type of building you live in, use Vivo en una casa / un piso / una finca.

  • To express that you like where you live, use Me gusta donde vivo.
  • If you specifically like your neighbourhood, you could say Me gusta mi barrio.
  • In case you don’t like your home, use No me gusta mi casa.
