Self
- Be able to describe yourself - use a range of adjectives and remember to make sure they agree with your gender.
- Familiarise yourself with words for different hobbies and interests and be able to give opinions on them - don’t just say you like or dislike them, say why.
- Understand the vocabulary and grammar needed to discuss your daily routine, including reflexive verbs and time expressions.
- Know how to discuss your ambitions for the future - use the future tense confidently and accurately.
Family
- Be able to describe your family members, again using a wide variety of adjectives.
- Understand family relationships and make sure you know words for extended family members not just immediate ones.
- Be prepared to discuss family dynamics and relationships - know the words to describe different personalities and understand how to talk about getting along (or not) with family members.
- Make sure you can discuss all aspects of a birthday party – this is a common topic and could include food, presents, guests and activities.
Pets
- Learn the names for a wide range of pets and be able to use adjectives to describe them.
- Understand how to talk about taking care of pets, including feeding them, exercising them and playing with them.
- Be prepared to discuss why you might or might not want to have a pet.
Personal Relationships
- Be able to describe your friends - use a range of positive and negative adjectives and be able to give reasons for your character descriptions.
- Understand how to talk about socialising - the activities you do with friends, places you go, etc.
- Learn to talk about falling out and making up - this includes learning some key phrases for expressing emotions and resolving disagreements.
- Be comfortable with talking about romantic relationships as well - terms for boyfriend, girlfriend, etc. Make sure to know some romantic phrases, but also words for breakups and other relationship problems.
