Transition Metals: Catalysts
- Transition metals and their compounds can act as catalysts
- They can be either heterogeneous (different phase from reactants) or homogeneous (same phase)
- They can act as reducing and oxidising agents, creating a reaction pathway with lower activation energy
- Examples include iron in the Haber Process (heterogeneous catalyst) and vanadium (V) oxide in the Contact Process.
