Scalars and Vectors

Scalar quantities only have a magnitude or a size.

Examples of scalar quantities include:

  1. Length
  2. Area
  3. Volume
  4. Speed
  5. Mass
  6. Density
  7. Temperature
  8. Energy
  9. Power

Vector quantities have a magnitude and an associated direction.

Examples of vector quantities include:

  1. Displacement
  2. Velocity
  3. Acceleration
  4. Momentum
  5. Force
  6. Weight

Vectors can be represented by an arrow. The length of the arrow represents the size and the direction of the arrow shows the vector quantity.

Define a scalar quantity.
Your answer should include: Size / Magnitude
Are the following quantities scalar or vector: force, weight and acceleration?
