Modes of Transport

• To express you are travelling by a certain mode of transport, use Saya naik…, e.g., Saya naik bus means “I take the bus”.

Travel and Locations

• Perjalanan refers to a “journey” or “trip”.
• To express travelling to a place, use Saya pergi ke…, e.g., Saya pergi ke sekolah means “I go to school”.
• Important places might include: sekolah for “school”, rumah for “house/home”, bandara for “airport”, and stasiun for “station”.

Traffic and Directions

• Lalu lintas stands for “traffic”.
• For basic directions, use: kiri for “left”, kanan for “right”, lurus for “straight ahead”, and belok to indicate a “turn”.
• To ask for directions, you might say Bisakah Anda memberi tahu saya jalan ke…? meaning “Can you tell me the way to…?”.

Tickets and Time

• Tiket is the term for “ticket”. For instance, Saya membeli tiket bus means “I bought a bus ticket”.
• Expressing time involved in travel includes jam for “hour”, menit for “minute”, and use of waktu for general “time”.
• An example can be Perjalanan itu memakan waktu dua jam, meaning “That journey takes two hours”.
