Eyelash tinting and eyebrow tinting

Understanding Eyelash and Eyebrow Tinting

  • Eyelash and eyebrow tinting: Both are procedures that involve the application of a semi-permanent dye to enhance, shape, and define lashes and brows.
  • Benefits: Tinting can give the eyes more definition and depth. It can also save time on daily makeup application.
  • Range of colours: Tints come in a variety of colours to match and complement a person’s skin and hair colour.

Performing Eyelash Tinting

  • Preparation: Consists of putting protective pads under the client’s eyes to protect the under-eye skin.
  • Application: A small applicator is used to add the tint to the upper and lower lashes. Ensure the client keeps eyes closed during the procedure.
  • Processing: After application, the tint needs to sit for about 5-10 minutes. Regularly check the intensity of the colour as per desired results.
  • Removal: Once the desired shade has been achieved, gently remove the excess tint with a damp cotton pad. This should be done carefully to avoid getting product in the client’s eyes.

Carrying Out Eyebrow Tinting

  • Preparation: First, the existing eyebrow shape must be assessed. The skin around the brows should be protected with a barrier cream.
  • Application: A tint mixed with developer is applied using a brow brush in the direction of hair growth.
  • Processing: The tint should be left on for 2-5 minutes, or until the desired depth of colour is attained.
  • Finishing: Any excess tint should be removed and the area cleaned using a cotton pad. Oil or moisturiser can be used to remove any residual dye from the skin around the brows.

Aftercare and Maintenance

  • Avoid wetting: Clients should avoid wetting their brows and lashes for 24 hours post-treatment.
  • Avoid makeup: Advise clients to not use makeup on the treated areas for at least 24 hours.
  • Repetition of treatment: As the tint fades over a period of 3-5 weeks, regular treatments are needed to maintain the desired shade.

Of utmost importance is to ensure a patch test is carried out 48 hours prior to treatment to rule out any allergic reactions to the dye. Always maintain the highest standards of health and safety, hygiene, and professional conduct in all aspects of the treatment.
