Preparing for and providing eyelash and eyebrow treatments
Preparing for and providing eyelash and eyebrow treatments
Preparing for Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments
- Health and safety: This is paramount, always sanitise hands, ensure personal hygiene and clean and sterilise all equipment. It’s also important to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Client consultation: Understanding client’s requirements is crucial. Listen carefully to their desired look. Discuss their history with eye treatments to identify any potential risks.
- Patch testing: Must be performed 24 – 48 hours before treatment to test for any allergic reactions to products.
- Contradictions: Be aware of situations where you shouldn’t perform a treatment, for example, if a client has a skin infection like conjunctivitis.
Providing Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments
- Eyelash tinting: This involves applying a tint to the lashes to darken them. Always protect the under-eye region with protective pads. Ensure the client’s eyes are shut throughout the procedure.
- Eyebrow tinting: Similar to eyelash tinting, but requires more careful application to create the desired shape. It’s important to regularly check the intensity of the colour.
- Eyebrow shaping/waxing: Shaping can be done using tweezers or a waxing technique. Pre-assess the shape and thickness of natural brows. Consider the desired shape, symmetry, and alignment.
- Eyelash extensions: These are glued one at a time onto the natural lashes. Detailed work, needing a steady hand and good eye magnification. Time consuming but provides a dramatic effect.
- Aftercare advice: Educate your clients on the correct aftercare advice. Teach them how to maintain their tinted/extended lashes and brows.
Remember to always work confidently and professionally, reassuring your clients with clear and precise explanations of your procedures. Being relaxed and competent through each stage of the treatment enhances the overall client experience.
