CHAPTER 6 – YOUR FAMILY

  1. Vocabulary:
    • Madre (Mother)
    • Padre (Father)
    • Hermano/Hermana (Brother/Sister)
    • Abuelo/Abuela (Grandfather/Grandmother)
    • Tío/Tía (Uncle/Aunt)
    • Primo/Prima (Cousin)

  2. Describing family members:

  3. Expressing likes and dislikes:
    • A mi madre le gusta/n … (My mother likes …)
    • No me gusta cuando mi hermano … (I don’t like it when my brother …)
  4. Discussing routine and activities family members do:
    • Mi padre trabaja en … (My father works in …)
    • Nosotros solemos … (We usually …)
  5. Discussing age and birthdays:
    • Tengo … años (I am … years old).
    • Mi hermano menor tiene … años (My younger brother is … years old).

  6. Describing physical appearance and personality:

  7. Use of Comparatives and Superlatives:
    • Mi hermano es mayor que yo (My brother is older than me).
    • De toda mi familia, mi madre es la más paciente (Of all my family, my mother is the most patient).
  8. Talking about relationships:
    • Me llevo bien/mal con … (I get on well/badly with)
    • Mi hermana y yo siempre nos peleamos (My sister and I always fight).
    • Mi abuelo y yo tenemos una fuerte conexión (My grandfather and I have a strong connection).

Remember: Practice using these phrases in sentences which can then be incorporated into the larger structure of your verbal or written response.

Also, remember to use the correct form of verbs for each subject when describing actions of different family members. For example, “Mi madre cocina”, not “Mi madre cocinas”.
