Shopping

  1. Familiarise yourself with commonly used shopping vocabulary in Spanish - “tienda” (shop), “supermercado” (supermarket), “lista de la compra” (shopping list), “cesta de compra” (shopping basket), “carrito de la compra” (shopping trolley).

  2. Learn how to ask where something is - “¿Dónde está…?” (where is…?), remember to use the vocabulary for items you might buy - “la leche” (milk), “el pan” (bread), “las frutas” (fruit).

  3. Proactively adopt phrases related to money: “¿Cuánto cuesta…?” (how much does…cost?), “es demasiado caro” (it’s too expensive), “es barato” (it’s cheap).

  4. Use and understand adjectives relating to shopping: “caro” (expensive), “barato” (cheap), “de segunda mano” (second-hand), “nuevo” (new), “viejo” (old).

  5. Be aware of and use phrases regarding payment methods: “¿Puedo pagar con tarjeta?” (Can I pay by card?), “¿Aceptan efectivo?” (Do you accept cash?).

  6. Practise conversations and interactions at the checkout: “¿Algo más?” (Anything else?), “Aquí tiene su cambio” (Here’s your change), “¿Quiere una bolsa?” (Do you want a bag?).

  7. Revise verbs related to shopping: “comprar” (to buy), “vender” (to sell), “devolver” (to return), “gastar” (to spend), “ahorrar” (to save).

  8. Learn phrases regarding size and quantity: “Necesito un kilo de…” (I need a kilo of…), “¿Tiene en talla grande?” (Do you have it in large size?), “Solo quiero uno/a” (I just want one).

  9. Study sentences for grocery shopping: “Busco la sección de frutas” (I’m looking for the fruit section), “¿Dónde puedo encontrar…?” (Where can I find…?).

  10. Understand and utilise phrases related to online shopping: “compras en línea” (online shopping), “cesta de compra” (shopping basket), “pago seguro” (secure payment), “fecha de entrega” (delivery date).

Remember, besides memorising all these, regularly practise and contextualise in conversations or written sentences.
