Times and Dates

I. Telling Time in Spanish:

• 1 o’clock: Es la una.
• 2 o’clock: Son las dos.
• Half past (any hour): Es la/son las (hour) y media.
• Quarter past (any hour): Es la/son las (hour) y cuarto.
• Difference between AM and PM: Use “de la mañana” for AM, “de la tarde” for PM until around 8 or 9, then switch to “de la noche.”

II. Days of the Week:

• Monday: Lunes
• Tuesday: Martes
• Wednesday: Miércoles
• Thursday: Jueves
• Friday: Viernes
• Saturday: Sábado
• Sunday: Domingo

III. Months of the Year:

• January: Enero
• February: Febrero
• March: Marzo
• April: Abril
• May: Mayo
• June: Junio
• July: Julio
• August: Agosto
• September: Septiembre
• October: Octubre

V. How to say the Date:

• Today is Monday, 10th May: Hoy es lunes, el 10 de mayo.
• My birthday is on June 4th: Mi cumpleaños es el 4 de junio.

VI. Useful phrases:

• What is the date today? : ¿Cuál es la fecha de hoy?
• What time is it?: ¿Qué hora es?
• The party is at eight o’clock: La fiesta es a las ocho.
• It’s midday: Es mediodía.
• It’s midnight: Es medianoche.
• Now and then: De vez en cuando.
