School Life

  • Understand the core vocabulary related to school life including words for various school subjects (las ciencias, las matemáticas, el inglés, etc.), classroom objects (el lápiz, el libro, la calculadora), types of assessments (el examen, la tarea, el proyecto), and people at school (el profesor, la directora, los compañeros de clase).

  • Be able to describe your daily school routine using correct Spanish tense; present (Yo estudio las matemáticas a las diez), past (Ayer, yo estudié la química en mi casa), and future tense (Mañana, tomaré un examen de inglés).

  • Know how to express likes, dislikes, and preferences about school subjects and activities in Spanish. Use verbs such as “gustar”, “encantar”, and “interesar”. For example, “Me gusta la biología pero me interesa más la historia.”

  • Familiarize yourself with the structure of the Spanish educational system. This includes understanding terms such as “primaria”, “secundaria”, “bachillerato” and “universidad”.

  • Be capable of discussing issues relating to school life in Spain. This might include topics such as school uniforms (el uniforme escolar), homework (los deberes), or school hours (el horario escolar).

  • Consider cultural aspects of school life in Spain versus your own country. You might discuss different traditions, expectations, typical school lunches, etc.

  • Develop the ability to express your future plans in terms of studies and career. You should be familiar with verbs like “esperar”, “quiere”, and “planear” and phrases like “en el futuro” or “después de graduarme”.

  • Also, make sure to learn the vocabulary for different professions (el médico, el ingeniero, el profesor, etc.) and places of employment (el hospital, la empresa, la escuela).

  • Be prepared to write or speak about a typical day at school, future study/career plans, or compare and contrast education in Spain and your own country.
