Taming of the Shrew: Scene Summaries

Introduction, Scene 1: A wealthy nobleman finds drunken tinker Christopher Sly and decides to play a prank on him by convincing him he is also a nobleman.
Introduction, Scene 2: The prank unfolds as Sly is introduced to “his wife,” a boy in disguise, and a play begins, set in Padua.
Act 1, Scene 1: In Padua, Lucentio arrives to study and falls in love with Bianca, but learns he must wait until her shrewish older sister, Katherina, is married first.
Act 1, Scene 2: A wealthy suitor, Petruchio, arrives intent on marrying Katherina; Lucentio plans to pose as a tutor in order to woo Bianca.
Act 2, Scene 1: Petruchio negotiates with Katherina’s father Baptista for her hand in marriage, while Lucentio commences his courtship of Bianca in disguise.
