Chapter: Technology in Daily Life

  • Learn key vocabulary related to technology, including computers, smartphones, tablets, video games, social media and online shopping and be able to use these terms in sentences.
  • Understand and learn to describe the advantages and disadvantages of technology in daily life. For example: “L’internet facilite la communication” (The internet facilitates communication) or “Les smartphones peuvent être distrayants” (Smartphones can be distracting).
  • Be able to express your own opinions about technology: “À mon avis, les réseaux sociaux peuvent être dangereux” (In my opinion, social networks can be dangerous) or “Je pense que les jeux vidéo sont amusants” (I think video games are fun).
  • Practice forming questions about the role of technology in others’ lives: “Utilises-tu souvent tonne ordinateur?” (Do you often use your computer?), “Quel est tonne jeu vidéo préféré?” (What is your favourite video game?).
  • Develop your understanding of present, past and future tense verbs to describe your habits and experiences with technology: “Je poste des photos sur Instagram tous les jours” (I post photos on Instagram every day), “Hier, j’ai acheté un nouveau jeu vidéo” (Yesterday, I bought a new video game), “Demain, je vais réparer mon ordinateur” (Tomorrow, I will fix my computer).
  • Learn to use complex sentence structures. Example: “Bien que l’internet soit utile, il peut être dangereux, s’il ne est pas utilisé de manière responsable” (Although the internet is useful, it can be dangerous if not used responsibly).
  • Be prepared to write a short essay or speech about the importance of technology and its effects on your daily life.
  • Understand cultural differences in the use of technology, for instance, how internet or smartphone usage might differ in France compared to your own experience.
