Books in Islam

  • The Quran is the holy book of Islam, believed to be the word of Allah as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Muslims regard it as the final, perfect and unchangeable message from Allah.
  • The Hadith are collections of the sayings and deeds of the Prophet Muhammad, providing practical examples of the application of the Quranic principles.
  • The Sunna refers to the traditions or known practises of the Prophet Muhammad, many of which have been recorded in the Hadith.
  • The Tawrat (Torah) is the book given to Musa (Moses), containing the laws of Allah as revealed to the Israelites.
  • The Zabur (Psalms) are the holy scriptures given to Dawud (David), constituting a series of prayers, praises and reflections.
  • The Injil (Gospel) is the message given to Isa (Jesus), detailing his teachings and life events as per Islamic belief.
  • Muslims believe all these books before Quran were revealed by Allah, but only the Quran remains in its original form, while others have been altered or corrupted over time.
  • Knowledge and study of these texts, particularly the Quran and Hadith, form a crucial part of a Muslim’s faith and practise, guiding their understanding of how to live a life pleasing to Allah.
