Reflecting on Personal Performance
Revisiting Goals and Objectives
- Always reflect on the initial goals and objectives set prior to the activity. Did you reach your aim or were there areas left unattended?
- Consider whether the goals were realistic. Were they too easy or too hard? Adjust your objectives for future activities accordingly.
Assessing Skills
- Evaluate your technical skills. How well did you manage swimming, diving, kayak handling, or safety procedures, depending on the activity undertaken?
- Assess your tactical skills, such as decision making and strategy during the activity.
- Consider physical ability and endurance - were these as expected or do they need more work?
- Reflect on your communication skills during group activities. Were you able to effectively share ideas or concerns during the activity?
Managing Emotions and Stress
- Reflect on how you handled any stress or anxiety during the activity. Did fear or panic influence your performance?
- Assess how you reacted to success and failure during the activity. Did you maintain a positive attitude even when facing difficulties?
Health and Safety
- Consider whether you adhered to all health and safety guidelines throughout the activity. Did you use equipment correctly and respect all procedures?
- Assess any health conditions that may have influenced your performance, and seek medical advice if needed.
- Reflect on any incidents or close calls that occurred. How did you react and could you have prevented these?
Feedback Review
- Consider any feedback received from peers or instructors. What improvements were suggested, and how can you implement these in the future?
- Be open to constructive criticism. Identify areas for improvement based on this feedback.
Future Action Plan
- Develop an action plan to improve your performance in future activities based on your reflections.
- Set measurable goals for these improvements, and revisit them after your next activity.
- Continue this cycle of reflection and improvement after each activity. This might involve seeking more training or practice, adjusting equipment or improving physical fitness levels.
