Vocabulary and Key Phrases

  • Familiarise yourself with common vocabulary about technology, such as computadora (computer), teléfono (phone), internet, redes sociales (social media), correo electrónico (email), etc.
  • Practice prepositions and verbs that often come together in the context of technology, such as “enviar un correo electrónico” (to send an email), “navegar por internet” (to surf the internet), or “compartir en las redes sociales” (to share in social media).
  • Familiarise yourself with adjectives that can describe technology - advanced (avanzada), essential (esencial), risky (riesgosa), convenient (conveniente) and more.

Using Technology

  • Understand and practise how to talk about different ways technology is used. This might be for work (trabajo), education (educación), entertainment (entretenimiento), etc.
  • Look at different verb tenses in this context too. For instance, how would you express your daily use of technology (routine and present tense), what technology you used in the past (past tense), or what technology might be like in the future (future tense)?

Perspectives on Technology

  • Be aware of different perspectives on technology. Can you express the benefits (beneficios) of technology, like quick communication (comunicación rápida) or wide access to information (acceso amplio a la información)? Can you also discuss potential disadvantages, such as addiction (adicción) or cyberbullying (ciberacoso)?
  • Be aware of topical issues related to technology, such as privacy (privacidad), digital divide (brecha digital), or environmental impacts (impactos ambientales).
  • Remember that you might also need to be able to express opinions about these issues - e.g. to agree (estar de acuerdo) or disagree (estar en desacuerdo), or to express uncertainty (incertidumbre).
